For everyone healthy enough to not be in mortal danger from this, the isolation is your chance to unplug 2020 and plug it back in again. It's the reset you've been meme-ing for all decade.
I keep hearing people say it's no big deal, and the death rate is less than the flu. There's actually science showing why this *is* important, But that's not the point. Even one death is too many when it's all so easy to prevent.
I'm sure many people have been feeling like the country is slowly getting worse. Like it's all going to hell with climate change, or maybe with fake news of it, or with whatever else you think is destroying the world.
But if you're not a millionaire or a politician you've probably been wondering what you can possibly do about any of it. Some of you might not be able to stay home from work. But almost every one of you can stay home from the bar, from the theater, from the party you were planning, or wherever it is.
This is your chance to do something real. You might not think it matters who you vote for, if you recycle, or what you buy. But by staying healthy now, you will almost certainly be helping many, many people, and possibly saving their lives.
That kind of thing stays with people forever. And when all of this is over, I hope each and every one of you can say, "I did the right thing".
Ten years from now, many people will remember this as a turning point. The year they remembered what really mattered. When they spent time with their family, emailed everyone they had lost touch with, and maybe learned that there's more to life than consuming.
This will be the time people cleaned out their closets, finished that story they had been meaning to write, and fixed their leaky garages. This will be the time people do every one of those things they thought there just wasn't enough time for.
Nobody will forget. This is the reset you've all been waiting for. The first time in a decade when people actually did anything majorly different than what they always did.
The world will always remember the time in 2020 when people started helping each other again. What will you say when they ask where you were?
Not everyone can stay home from everything. But this isn't about politics. This isn't about lockdowns and quarantines and states of emergency. This is about choosing to do something different, to live better, to do everything you couldn't before.
And if you think there's going to be some kind of martial law nightmare and they're coming for your freedom, you'll be glad you took the two weeks to gather intel, instead of marching off right now to go make a point. You'll just get on the face recognition cams or whatever.
And have some empathy for those in mortal danger from all this. You have now idea how lucky you are to get to sit around for two weeks.
